COSTA RICA - Day 2: Drive to Arenal Volcano

We woke up early to get a head start on our first destination, Arenal Volcano. We passed through many cities that reminded me of the streets of Mexico. As we drove on, the cities were fewer and smaller than the previous and before you knew it, you were in the rain forest. Sean couldn't resist taking this picture of Burger King (the only fast food restaurant I saw).
I really wish I had a professional camera and a lot more time to get really creative on some of these photos. The towns are colorful and full of life and I can spend an entire day in the city just snapping away. I was a little stressed driving through the bigger cities because there aren't really any lanes and locals kinda bully their way on the road, leaving us tourist with shakin' nervous systems (well, at least me anyway).

As we got closer to Arenal Volcano, the smoothly layed paved roads turned into rock roads. This no doubt made for a very bumpy and scary ride. The rain forest reminded me of Maui's "mountain" side as there are many one way bridges and stretches of road. Also there were little towns scattered throughout the rain forest. Mostly people were on foot or motorcycle and the vehicle of choice were older model Toyotas. The views are truly breath taking with all the different types of trees, plants and hill sides.
