Day 6: Jet Skis, Snorkeling, Couples Massage, a Nice Dinner Out...Que Sucedio?

Our last full day in Costa Rica was gonna be jammed packed with lots to do. We woke up early and walked down to the beach only to be told by the jetski tour guy, it was high tide and they don't do the 1/2 day to the private beach during high tide. What?! But thats what I was looking forward to!! A half hour ride to the private beach, snorkeling, laying out while Sean played with the jetski...NOW what are we suppose to do?? Well, we already had our suits on so I suggested laying out by the pool, order some lunch then head on over to Siba Spa & Retreat for the royal treatment.

It sounded like a good plan, so we headed over to the pool's bar for some morning bloody marys, found a spot at the pool and settled down for an afternoon swim and some blogging.

I enjoyed every minute of laying out and soaking up the sun and thought, wow, what a vacation!

Not too long after that it started to rain, but that didn't stop us. We continued having a good time until I noticed my laptop under the mesh umbrella wasn't exactly safe from the rain, so we packed up and headed out.

The sun and swimming all day must have had its toll on us because we made it back to our room...and CRASHED!! No couples massage, no dinner, no nothing!! (I can use double negatives here, because this is informal writing..hehe) I suppose the the important thing was that we had a really good last day in Costa Rica :) Adios!

DAY 5 cont: Dresses with Elastic Waistbands...GENIUS!

After a long day of shopping, driving on more windy roads and some time spent at the beach, I really wasn't up for a night out for dinner. I wanted to go the room service route, while Sean was up for dinner at La Vista, one of the hotel's restaurant's.

We decided to take advantage of every minute in Costa Rica and an absolutely beautiful (and still very humid) evening. I made record time in getting ready so we headed down to the bar and enjoyed a couple of drinks before dinner.

Whe Sean and I got to the restaurant, we had the entire patio all to ourselves with a view of the hotel's lit pools. Our server presented us with our menus and I have to say, he was hands down thee best server I've ever had the pleasure of being waited by. So much so, I had to call the hotel and leave a message for the GM with my raving feedback. He was genuinely kind and equally knowledgeble in describing each dish.

We started with their authentic tortilla soup that was full of flavor. Sean ordered the Strip Loin medium rare and I ordered the Rib Eye, also medium rare. Both plates were accompanied by baby potatoes and herbs, chimichurri and tamarindo sauces and vegetable skewers. We didn't use the sauces, the steak was too darn delicious to taint its savory juices. It was a big piece of steak and I wanted to enjoy every bite so I took my time. Half way through and I was beyond stuffed. I kept looking at the uneaten half and thought, I got this. Haha, 2 more bites and I thought Sean was going to have to cart me back to the room! Stick a fork in me because I was DONE!!

It had just begun to drizzle but we were in dire need of an after dinner walk. The humidity was so bad, we actually left the overhead coverage and just walked in the rain. After a good 30 minutes or so and now a little more than just wet, we retreated to our room stuffed and satisfied :)

COSTA RICA - Day 5: Jaco is pronounced Haco in espanol (yea, u hack*ss...haha)

Today was the first day we weren't up early for some crazy adventure and we got to sleep in, if you can call 7:30am sleeping in. Our options for the day were: drive out to a recommended beach, Playa Manuel Antonio, or do the 1/2 day jetskiing.

We opted to drive into the city of Jaco (about a 15 min drive south of Los Suenos) for some lunch and a little shopping and then head out for the hour and a half drive to do some snorkeling at this must see "white sand, gorgeous water" beach.

We headed out early afternoon, me, Sean and his brother. We had a couple of sandwiches and smoothies and then walked up and down the street to do some bikini shopping for me :D Shop after shop and I just wasn't feelin' any of the bikinis...none that I'd care to even try on...I know, right! Can you believe it?? Sean, on the other hand, it was like boardshorts heaven! I thought I'd find some really great deals out here, but the cost of food and clothing were pretty much the same as the US prices and even more in some cases.

Anywho, I couldn't take being out in the heat too much longer (and believe it or not, not ONCE did I complain or whine about it), so we headed for our rental, blasted the a/c and set out for Manuel Antonio state park/beach. As we got closer, the beach city reminded me of Lahaina's beach strand, only this was kinda dumpy and dirty. The streets were crowded with locals and tourists. I tried to take a peak at the water as we were driving, but there were trees, bushes and buildings blocking my view. At every stop light, there was somone blowing a whistle at you, telling you to park in their parking lot. We found a nice spot (close to the shops and bars) and parked. The "parking attendant" (ha!) assured us our car would be safe.

We did a little more shopping and then stopped at, what looked to be a popular bar for Americans and ordered a few ice cold beers to-go ;)

We walked across the street to the beach side and then I got a good look at the white sand, beautiful water beach??? No, there was no "white-sand", it was the same color sand I got back at home less than a mile from me. Beautiful water?? Yes, it was definitely a beautiful shade of blue-green and would look even more beautiful if it didn't look so dirty. The beach, don't get me wrong was gorgeous with the little islands a couple hundred yards out...just not the "white" sand I was hoping for or the snorkeling I was looking forward to doing.

Either way, it was a nice drive, we got away from the resort for an afternoon and got to explore another part of Costa Rica...and thats what its all about afterall, right?
